A Quiet Night In
A Quiet Night In
By: Jill Murphy
Summary:
A Quiet Night In starts out when Mrs. Large, informs her kids that her and daddy will be having a special dinner in honor of Mr. Larges birthday. Being all organized, Mrs. Large told the kids that they have to go to bed early so they can have a quite night in.
As the Large kids got home from school, they got showered ate dinner and got ready for bed. A little disappointed that they would have to turn in early, they asked for book. Finally having settled on one, Mr. Large started to read and fell asleep. Mr. Large feeling bad, took over reading but she to fell asleep. At the end of the book, it was up to the kids to put themselves to sleep and give the parents a quite night in.
Pros:
- Nice illustrations
- Very funny for parents to read
- Kids love the Large family
Cons:
- I try to encourage good manners with my girls and some parts did not set good examples. I was not fond of the kids fighting. There were some other messages I was not so fond of but it was a funny story.
Suggestions:
- If you are going to have some grown up time, this would be a great book to read to your kids. I would also suggest you go over some of the not nice behaviors with the kids and teach the the right way to act. It is okay for parents to need some grown up time and for the kids to help out with it.
Age Range:
- 3 and older
Bottom Line:
A Quiet Night In is a book that I have mixed feelings about. On one hand, as a parent this book is so funny. As I was reading it to my girls, there is so many funny things that would just crack parents up. For example when Mr. Large came home tired, he wanted a TV dinner. Instead the kids got tougher and decided to help out. On the other hand, I am not sure how much I like how the kids interact. Maybe I am over thinking but whatever the case is, my kids really enjoy hearing A Quiet Night In. It is fun for my kids and yes I get a good laugh every time I read it to them.
